  1. Double book entries. While cumbersome, it will eventually work out when calls come in on an archival number. Simply ledger the old number to the new, and do a ‘reverse’ to ledger the new to the old.

Do it much like a Spanish-English translation book, which provides translations in both directions.

if you can’t find it in the new archival system, then you know to go to the ledger.

And, the ledger can be reviewed annually to assist in locating and updating; it will also come in handy when some archive at a small location pops up 35 years after the fact and wants a new copy of an old archive number.
